Introduction

The Department of Medical Education was created subsequent to the endorsement of agenda item no. IB/06/09/2023 during the Institute Body(IB) meeting convened on January 6, 2023. It formally commenced its functions on March 15, 2023, with the induction of its founding faculty members by the then Executive Director of the Institute. Before this, it was functioning as Medical Education Technology (MET) Unit in the Institute. This department stands as a cornerstone in the advancement of medical education and the elevation of healthcare standards. Its primary mandate encompasses the meticulous development of curricula, with a pronounced focus on Competency-Based Medical Education (CBME), and the perpetual evolution of Medical Education technologies to meet and exceed international benchmarks.

In consonance with modern educational paradigms, it curates an extensive array of foundational courses for undergraduate (UG) and postgraduate (PG) medical and nursing students at regular intervals. These initiatives are meticulously designed to bolster acquisition of soft skills, protocol development, thesis writing, manuscript writing, and the all-encompassing professional maturation of students, ensuring their holistic development.

Faculty enrichment is a paramount objective, with the department prioritizing the organization of workshops and training sessions aimed at refining pedagogical techniques and augmenting research acumen. The department is equally devoted to fostering a culture of research and innovation to refine medical education practices, while upholding stringent quality assurance through systematic evaluations and feedback loops. Strategic collaborations with distinguished institutions are actively pursued to facilitate the dissemination of knowledge and the integration of best practices.

With a visionary perspective, the Department of Medical Education aspires to emerge as a vanguard in the realm of medical education, nurturing excellence in teaching, learning, and research. Through its unyielding dedication to excellence, the department endeavours to elevate the calibre of medical education and to sculpt the future leaders of healthcare, thereby making an indelible impact on the global healthcare landscape.

The department has been developed on the Ground Floor in Administrative Block adjacent to the office of Dean (Research) with a state of art infrastructure of the Institute. The Department has following facilities:

  1. Conference Hall with Hi-tech audio- video and web casting facility (with a capacity of 50 persons)
  2. Chambers for Faculty members
  3. Department Office
  4. Waiting Area

The Department of Medical Education regularly conducts following courses and workshops:

  1. Organizing and conducting Foundation courses for undergraduates students.
  2. Organizing and conducting Foundation courses for postgraduates & post-doctoral fellows.
  3. Conducting Faculty development programs for faculty members of the Institute.
  4. AETCOM implementation for under graduates
  5. Elective courses for UG students
